Strange story...

I leave Agrinio, little town in Epyre, and take the direction of Mesolongie, on the coast. The warmth is correct, it's 8 o'clock a.m., and I walk quickly, like ever in the morning. A few km farest, I see a car stopped on the border : a guy is siet on the right side, and the driver is outside, waving to the other cars on the road. But no one stop. Coming up to them, the driver look at me and ask me for help.

-Do you speak english ?
- yes
The man, joining both hands like a plea sign, say me :
- Please, don't you have 20 euros for me ? It's to buy some petrol, we runned out. In return, I give you my ring, it's gold.
He show me a little golden signet ring. I get used to albanian customs, and I think it's just a charm for 1 euro.
So, why did I decide to help him ? I don't know, I didn't think a lot, I was not completely waked up, a guy need help... It's stupide, I will need money before the end of my travel !
But I take my money and give him 20 euros.
The guy light up himself !
-Thank you, thank you, the ring is your !
- I don't want your charm, what I would do with it ?
- No, no, take it ! And he take my hand and let is ring in. And try to kiss my hand !!! I just have the reflex to stop it.
He thanks me again like the messiah himself going down on the hearth to help him...
- Where are you from ?D'ou es-tu ?
- France, and you ?De France, et toi ?
He show me the car registration : Bulgaria
Goodbye and let's go.
And I forget him. I'm still sleeping, the landscape is beautiful, I visit a nice chapel builded in a cliff, I walk in the mountains...
About 1 p.m., I stop in a coffee shop and take my note. And my bulgar come back in memory : who was this guy ?
I take out again the ring of my pocket and examine it : it's metal. A manual work. Inside, I see 2 marks : the first one is unreadable, but the second one say "18k"... 18 carat ? %&*@ ! It's really gold ?
THis guy give me a gold ring for 15 or 20 L of petrol ?
What is the price of a baril today ? He was surely hurry to go far and quickly. And his way to thank me... It seems I saved his life !
4 days later (today), I go to see a jeweller : he confirms it's gold, but learning about the origin, he advises me to keep it as remember instead of trying to sell it.
It was my intention.
