Split

Waow !

I love this city.
There's nothing to see exept for the old center. But this one worth to stay there a few days ! For a short historical remember, it was the palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletien, which served after that to host local people, and a lot of influences have passed there since this time (Middle Age, Gothic, Italian Rebirth, Baroc, Austrian...) and they have been stacked up without destroy old vestige. The result is a incredible mix where all buildings are muddled. As said in a tourism book : " a rag bag city ? no, a history lesson."
You are lost in two backstreet, you are surprised to see roman arcs entrying directly in the houses, the roman palace columns in a bank, washed clothes hang up between two venitian balcony, and it's a pleasure to fall a second time the same street by accident because there is always another thigs to see

The cathedral is a surprise too : she looks like a roman temple converted as christian one : it's a round bordered by roman columns, with venitian decorations, a latin inscription speaking about the Austrian Emperor, and outside, a tower younger than the main building let dominate this jumble of roofs, terrass, balcony, cut sometimes by some little places, like a forest glade.

OK, I know, it's a bit rough, but I just describe as I see, like the little tourist I am, and I didn't research before writting this message : it's a description "on the spot". So if you want more details, go on internet, or better : come to see it

Some people asked me for a picture :
